What we learned planting 10,000 trees in schools
A short, honest look at what worked, what did not, and what we would tell others starting out.
When we started, we did not have much. A borrowed room, a few chairs and a lot of hope. Families trusted us with their children, and we promised to show up every single day.
Today the room is full of noise and laughter. Children who could not read a sentence now read stories to their younger brothers and sisters. Parents come to see what their children made. Volunteers from nearby offices give their weekends.
We learned three simple things. First, small and steady beats big and rare. Second, share real numbers with donors, even when they are not perfect. Third, say thank you often, and mean it.
If you run a small NGO, start with what you have. Write down what changes. Share it here. Someone out there wants to help you, they just need to find you.
